Marco Island Rotary Sunrise Dental Clinic Installation, San Lucas Tollman, Guatemala:
This 1994 project was championed by Rotarian Dr. Herman Schulze and Rotarian Jeffrey Biden. Dr. Schulze is a practicing dentist on Marco Island and is still supporting the community of San Lucas Tollman.
Club Rotary Foundation Chairman, Bob Thomas, visited the facility in December 2015 and met with the current Medical Director Dr. Rafael Tun Ajpuac, M.D. He reported that the project fulfills the Rotary qualifications of “Disease Prevention & Treatment” as well as “Sustainability”. The clinic has served this remote community for 21 years. They now have a resident dentist supported by visiting dental students from the University of Guatemala and American universities. (Please see the welcome notice to visiting dentists)
Dr. Rafael Tun Ajpuac expressed his appreciation for Sunrise rotary’s contribution and advised that the Mission Priest extends appreciation in every Sunday morning service.
